Exercise is an integral component of your therapy. Whether you have an acute sports injury, nagging, chronic arthritic pain, a work injury or a repetitive strain injury, exercise therapy may be designed specifically for you to complement your in office therapy to help accelerate your recovery. The best part is these exercises can be done in the comfort of your home or at your own gym. Exercise programs often consist of – depending on your specific circumstances – muscle strengthening, stretching, cardiovascular conditioning, stability exercises, balance exercises, etc.
Therapeutic Exercise
Effective and successful rehabilitation of the patient, regardless of injury, often will involve a multi-modal approach, consisting of manual therapy, a modality (i.e. IFC, ultrasound, laser) complimented with exercise therapy. I follow the SAID Principle, or Specific Adaptation in Imposed Demands Principle. In other words, the training or rehab program attempts to adapt the individual to the demands that they may experience in life, work or play.
Exercise therapy may consist of flexibility or Range of Motion exercises (i.e. PNF, Yoga dynamic stretches), strength exercises and proprioceptive exercises.
